We are so excited, it finally looks like Spring has arrived to West Glacier! We have so many exciting things going on that we need to share them with you.
Great Northern Railway Café presents Oso Catering!
Great Northern presents Eric and Sarah of Oso Catering!
Oso Catering is a food concession and catering company with a smoking habit. Our delicious apple-wood smoked meats are combined with fresh ingredients and sauces to create unique and delicious dishes. It’s not BBQ style, its Oso style!
Eat lunch in glacier surrounded by history and scenery. Meals are served in our antique Great Northern Railway caboose, conveniently located in West Glacier, Montana. During your day of hiking and sightseeing, stop by our unique glacier restaurant and treat yourself to refreshing frozen yogurt or other snacks.
We are so pleased that a large percentage of last summer’s employees returned for another summer of fun! We miss them so much during the off season, they are just great people to work and hang out with. We also want to welcome our new recruits! What is really fun is that they are all so different. Whether they are students in med school or studying geology, biology or photography, they are all welcome. Every single one of these guides, bus drivers, housekeepers and reservationists have their own story and bring so much to the Great Northern Resort family that we are extremely grateful to them for choosing to work with us. Here is a pic of a couple of our returning guides who yesterday raced in a raft in the Bigfork Whitewater Festival and won 3rd place, the only locals to win (some great boaters from Chile won first place and a fun team from Oregon won second place).
Josh, Joe, Carl and Kevin won a prize at the 2014 Bigfork Whitewater Festival
And here is a photo of Jordan, our wonderful office manager who is a really good guitar player, but will never tell anyone about it, you have to catch her in action to hear her beautiful music. She lives in Montana full time and in the winter you can visit her at the Toggery in Whitefish where she works in the winter months. She truly is an important asset to our company and we would not be able to attain such a high level of customer service without her!
Ck, Jordan and Jess will ensure the office runs smoothly this summer!
Becky (also known as CK) on the left is originally from Colorado, she has a degree in Natural Resources and is a fantastic photographer. Check out this photo of Lake McDonald she took with her cell phone, it was featured on Glacier National Park’s official Facebook page and has almost 23,000 likes and almost 5,000 shares! No wonder it was a finalist in a national photograph contest of all National Parks in 2013. CK has signed up to do pretty much every job we were offering. You might encounter her as a raft guide, a reservationist and a bus driver. Energetic and sweet, she will definitely make sure you have a wonderful experience here at Great Northern Resort.

Jess on the right is also a new recruit and is here early to train as a reservationist. She is studying Business Management at the University of Montana in Missoula, MT. She brought her cute fur baby with her, Sammy. Check out those adorable ears! We are looking forward to getting to know these two ladies better as the summer progresses, how lucky we are to have them join our team.

Our river education programs start soon!
Carl, our wonderful Head Instructor here at Great Northern loves the Spring! This is when he gets to train his new raft guides, does refresher courses with returning ones and also gets to teach private boaters about what he loves best, the river! Whether he is teaching F.B.I., military (US and Canada), US Forest Service or National Park Service, local raft guides or private boaters, classes are always tailored to each group. He is patient, fun and a very good teacher. You may also see some of his new instructors helping him also. As Carl’s apprentices, Brett and Ted have learnt their skills from the best and are constantly attending further education classes to hone their skills. Wilson and Greg will help you with any kayak school needs you may have. Carl has built the Glacier River School at Great Northern from scratch and there is something for everyone, even kids! Check out the website for upcoming classes www.glacierriverschool.com” target=’_blank’ title=’Glacier River School’>Glacier River School or call our office on 1-800-735-7897 if you would like more information.

New direct Flights
New direct flights from Portland, OR and Oakland, CA, Chicago, IL to Kalispell (about 20 minutes from us). Hopefully Glacier Park International Airport (Kalispell) will have direct flights to and from Los Angeles, CA as well. We hope that more direct flights will improve the overall holiday experience for our guests, especially those who already come to visit us but have to endure several flights to make it here!
Very affordable lodging off season and mid-season rates located one mile from Glacier National Park
Visit us here in West Glacier, one mile from the West entrance to Glacier National Park. We offer great rates in May and June before the peak season begins. Even if the Going-to-the-Sun road is not open all the way until mid-June, there is so much to do around here that we can keep you entertained for weeks! We will be more than happy to assist you with planning your Glacier Park vacation. You can book online or by calling us on 1-800-735-7897.
Our next blog post will be mostly about rafting, but the season has already begun! The spring run off is happening right now, if you want to experience the power of the Middle Fork of the Flathead river, please call us and book your whitewater trip. This time of year wetsuits and neoprene boots are included, so you really do not have to bring anything, just yourselves!
Happy Spring everyone!
